Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) at Furman
Students: Don’t just learn about chemistry, learn to be a chemist! The Furman REU program is designed to not only give students a chance to work in a dynamic research environment during an intensive ten-week summer experience but to continue that research into the academic year with your favorite instructor.Faculty: We will provide you with a stipend, laboratory space, funds for supplies and congenial colleagues that will renew your excitement in science. We invite you and a student to come and explore your own research ideas or collaborate with one of our research groups.

IMPORTANT: Visiting research teams (from outside Furman University) must submit the Summer 2013 REU Application (DOCX file format) by March 15, 2013.
Please complete the application electronically and then print the document to add signatures. It will be much appreciated if the completed applications are scanned and emailed to tim.hanks@furman.edu. (Any additional materials can be in either Word or PDF format.)
Applications are accepted ONLY from TEAMS composed of a faculty member and a student(s). Students may NOT apply individually to the program. Also:
- Participating students must be citizens or permanent residents of the United States.
- Participating students must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate chemistry program (and plan to be enrolled during fall term of 2013).
- Students of under-represented minority groups are especially encouraged to participate.
The program will run May 13 through July 19 (ten weeks). Students will receive a stipend of $4,500 and a $500 housing/transportation allowance. Faculty are eligible for a stipend of up to $8,000 as well as support for supplies. Prospective teams should contact the Program Director for more information:
