Furman University Department of Chemistry

Students at Beckman Conference Furman's undergraduate students are the heart of our nationally recognized program. Furman Chemistry ranks 3rd in the nation among predominantly undergraduate institutions (PUIs) granting bachelor's degrees certified by the American Chemical Society, and 14th among all colleges and universities (2003). Among PUIs, Furman ranks 6th among schools of origin for Chemistry Ph.D. candidates (1991-2000). Upon graduation, over half of our students go on to graduate schools in chemistry or medicine.

Furman Chemistry students have a strong history of winning major awards and honors, including National Science Foundation Fellowships, Goldwater Scholarships, and Fulbright Scholarships. Each year dozens of undergraduates give research presentations and posters at regional and national meetings, both in undergraduate poster sessions and predominantly in the regular sessions.
